Of late, we’ve been noticing a trend of deaths involving sports. Few months back, a 17 year old guy died after crossing the finishing line of a triathlon event. Last Sunday, a 25 year old army regular collapsed after finishing a half marathon. Yesterday, a 22 year old soccer player who has been in critical condition after collapsing suddenly during soccer game in Spain called it quits and died too.
Notice how young all of them were? Just how much is too much? Sometimes we simply refuse to listen to our body and push ourselves to the limits. Personally I take it as a challenge to go the limits with my body often telling myself, “You’re still young. What wrong could happen?” and well everytime, I make it back vertically.
No doubt deaths are unavoidable and how one would die remains the only question mark to everyone but death through sports just seem like an injustice to life itself. Exercising is supposed to be a good thing and to die doing something good just don’t seem right in many ways. Not that we can help it but yeah.
No this won’t stop me from doing all the sports I’ve love doing but the next time I think of pushing the limits, when he shouts, I’ll listen. Be healthy, stay alive.
