What do you do?

Recently a lot of people have been asking me this question with regards to my work. And i realise i give many different answers everytime.

Family:
"i'm a Data Analyst, i analyse data to make sense out of numbers for reporting purposes so as to provide useful insights into clients' business process."

MD:
"i do lots of ground work and dirty work. nothing much really. lots of numbers crunching."

Anton:
"i do Math. play around with numbers making sure that 1 + 1 must always be equal to 2."

Poly:
"i'm a DBA who does SQL shit at work."

of course the explaination for the 1st one holds true. the rest were mainly for entertainment purposes. my MD was talking to us the other day over lunch and said he was under this Director once who would ask his staff to explain what they do in their work, into one paragraph. anyone who couldn't give a good explaination of what they do would be fired by him straight. so as you can see, it's really a bullshit industry huh.

whatever the case is, i'm gonna jump into furthering this path of mine soon. a path even i can't seem to explain with diction.
