Conserve Energy

Was reading the papers today and there was this interesting section about global warming in conjunction with World Environment Day. Like what's new, but apparently experts are predicting that at the end of this century, tempratures could rise by 1-5 degrees. That's like mother Earth having a fever.

A few degrees may not seem like a lot but humans, when body temprature rises by 2 degrees, we are said to be having a high fever and if it hits 40 degrees, it could even prove fatal as our brains would have been baked and we could have a brain haemorrhage. So please, let's all help to conserve energy, reduce carbon emissions, basically let's go green!

Singapore has stepped up it's efforts in going green by having this "Conserve Energy" campaign and if you travel around in the trains often, you would have come across some of the adverts about how to save energy and shed some precious dollars off your monthly bills. Channel 5 also has also came up with it's own green initiative in the form of "Saving Gaia". All these efforts are in hope of creating awareness amongst us and hopefully one day, we might just be able to contribute back to the environment what we have taken from it in the first place.

All these conscientious efforts go a long way and you could also win prizes if your household is conserving the most energy in the whole of Singapore or something but something caught my eye in one of the posters, which I think makes the campaign totally redundant. The top prize is a CNG powered car, 2nd is a energy conserving multi split airconditioner, 3rd is an energy conserving refridgerator and 4th is a 32 inch LCD TV.

Now aren't ALL the 4 prizes up on offer the very reason what causes global warming? No doubt they are greener options but still if we were to ban cars like how we are fighting to put a ban to cigarettes, then problem solved and everyone would be riding bicycles and the world would be a much better place to live in. -__-"

So please let's all just be green and think green. Little bits go a long way. =)

After all that, I'm the one driving a diesel powered van. =x
