December has to be by far, THE favourite month of all time. For the basic reasons that 1) the weather is "supposedly" perpectually cool, 2) it's the holiday season and 3) because it's the holiday season, most companies would have the last week off for all their employees to have a well-deserved break.
But all that looking forward to ends right about there, when Christmas hits in. I don't celebrate Christmas but somehow always get involved in the festivities of gift exchanges and whatnots. I like to think of it as "doing it for fun" and also because the days leading up to Christmas, there seem to be many dinners to attend and lots of catching up to do plus presents to buy. All that builds up the excitement of the month as a whole. Once Christmas day comes and goes, the feeling of hitting the new year and doing the whole cycle over again can actually be quite depressing.
On a personal note, I actually hate celebrating the new year, for the very simple reason that it's back to the grind and you have to snap out of that holiday mood of yours. Thus NYE celebrations of any kind don't interest me the least bit. In fact I'd rather be doing mundane stuff than to be celebrating what is to be another challenging year ahead. I don't see a reason to be celebrating the new year, unless of course if one have had a bad year.
In experiencing a bad year, a new year on the other hand spells a new beginning, a fresh page in which one can move on with life and look forward to something instead of dwelling on the misfortunes/sadness/depressing/etc. feelings of the previous year.
No matter what your reason may be in celebrating the new year, the month of December would most definitely be one in which everyone would do some self-reflection on their lives. Love it or hate it, the past year(s) cannot be earned back. All that we can do is to work on our lives to make it better than what/who we are previously. Embrace the month. Enjoy the mood. Soak in the atmosphere. It comes by once a year, and I do believe each and every single one of us, should enjoy these 31 days out of 365 cause we all deserved it.
Happy holidays!
